The Center for Digital Editing will host a forum that will bring together editors and technical experts currently engaged with two open-source content management systems -- Omeka and Drupal -- during a two-day workshop to discuss the use, development, and distribution of options for creating and publishing digital documentary editions. Information generated at this workshop will be made available through a website and presented at professional meetings and institutes to promote feedback and discussion. |

The Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition (CWGK) is a freely accessible online collection of historical documents associated with the chief executives of the state--three Union and two provisional Confederate. Yet CWGK is about far more than the five governors. The project works through the office of the governor to preserve the diverse and largely unknown lives of tens of thousands of Kentuckians, opening new windows onto the compelling, important, and overlooked narratives. |

This project will bring together the records of Kentucky’s Civil War chief executives, 3 Union governors and 2 Confederate governors. It will produce a beta version of the digital documentary edition, including 4,000 to 5,000 transcribed and edited documents, to be completed during the grant cycle. This prototype will be used to test and develop the Web interface, as the editing of the remaining in-scope documents is completed. Total completion of the project will occur by 2016-17. The PKCWG/DDE promises to become an indispensable tool for the exploration of nationally significant questions related to the Civil War. These documents will advance new understandings of the social, military, political, and cultural history of this era in U.S. history. Preservation of these documents in a globally accessible form will increase new research on Civil War-era Kentucky, and will help to reshape what we think we know about the national narrative. |

The Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition (CWG-K) is bringing together the records of Kentucky's Civil War chief executives, the three Union governors, Beriah Magoffin (1859-62), James F. Robinson (1862-63), and Thomas E. Bramlette (1863-67), and the two provisional Confederate governors, George W. Johnson (1861-62) and Richard Hawes (1862-65). A documentary edition of all papers associated with all five Kentucky Civil War governors will quickly become a required evidentiary source for any serious researcher investigating this region and its history in this era. CWG-K promises to become an indispensable tool for the exploration of nationally significant questions related to the Civil War. |
