The Einstein Papers Project at Caltech publishes the Collected Papers of Albert Einstein, a multi-volume series that appears in print and is also freely available online, in both a documentary and an English language translation edition. Fifteen double volumes and a comprehensive index volume have been published so far. The edition will include all of his writings, as well as all incoming and outgoing correspondence. Einstein is undoubtedly the most significant and revolutionary modern scientist. He was also a major figure in European and American history, culture, and politics. The edition is now entering the transition years 1930-1933, when the rise of fascism in Germany compelled Einstein to leave Europe and seek refuge in the United States. We seek support for work on three English translation volumes containing more than 1,700 documents as full text and covering this period and their online presentation. |

We seek support for editorial research and publication of 3 volumes of the Collected Papers of Albert Einstein and for the refinement and expansion of our www.alberteinstein.info website that presents 900 Einstein manuscripts and a database of the Einstein Archive. The project will carry out research for the period 1921-1923. A Cumulative Index Volume 11 will be published in print and on our website. The expanded electronic resources will include revised and expanded access to more than 70,000 archival holdings from which the edition proceeds and an authoritative Einstein bibliography. We will prepare the infrastructure for the expansion of web-available Einstein documents. Volumes 12 and 13 will contain significant previously unknown and unpublished writings and correspondence for an important period in Einstein's life and work: e.g. his research on a unified field theory, on superconductivity, trips and lectures in Japan and Palestine, and his involvement in the League of Nations. |

The Einstein Papers Project (EPP) has been engaged in publishing The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein (CPAE), a scholarly, annotated, print and electronic edition of the writings and correspondence of Albert Einstein (1879-1955). Selected from among 80,000 documents, the edition aims at making widely available, for the first time, complete and authoritative access to a massive written legacy that documents the most important developments in 20th century science and technology in the context of profound social and political transformations. |
