Integrating the Digital into the Humanities

FAIN: ASB-306451-25

Thiel College (Greenville, PA 16125-2181)
David Robert Buck (Project Director: October 2024 to present)

A 15-month faculty and curricular development project to integrate digital humanities tools and approaches into general education humanities courses.

Thiel College's project integrates the Digital Humanities into our general education offerings in English, history, and philosophy in order to reach the greatest number of students. As humanists, we always work to instill in our students the critical reading, thinking, and writing skills foundational to understanding and engaging with the world. We recognize the need to apply these skills more intentionally to digital environments. Our Digital Humanities initiative will allow us to do this by focusing on three areas: access to digital tools, digital literacy, and campus outreach. Under this initiative, faculty will design new courses and modules to give students access to tools like AI and website design, develop digital and information literacy, and engage broader campus for input on additional digital skills the humanities could incorporate.
