Chris Sniezek (Project Director: October 2025 to present)
Design and installation of an exhibit titled “Maryland’s America,” which would feature contemporary art and historical interpretation, with a particular emphasis on the raising of the Star-Spangled Banner over Fort McHenry. The exhibit will open in July 2026.
The Flag House is creating a new, two-year exhibit which will engage community artists from across the state as they create a unique piece of work highlighting Marylander contributions to American history. The artists selected will represent the multicultural and demographically blended communities from across the state and have a chance to create a new piece of work to engage in challenging historical conversations. Partnering with the Pride of Baltimore II and Fort McHenry, the artists selected will have the opportunity to recreate Francis Scott Key’s inspiration as they sail out to the same location and witness the Star-Spangled Banner Flag hoisted over Fort McHenry. Then, with this shared experience, they will be asked to individually create a unique piece of work that reflects the emotions evoked while witnessing the flag and simultaneously highlighting 250 years of Maryland-American experiences which will be displayed in a new Flag House exhibit.
